Quick answer: The best upsell app for Shopify in 2026 depends on the slot you are missing. For stores under 500 orders a month, Oxify Cart Drawer, Post Upsell is the best value, because it covers the cart drawer, product page, post purchase and thank you page slots in one app, and it is free under 50 orders a month. For proven scale, Upsell.com (formerly ReConvert) is the safest pick at 4.8 stars across 2,802 reviews. For Shopify Plus stores that want in checkout offers, Oxify Cart Drawer, Post Upsell & AfterSell is the strongest option.
Why Most Upsell Apps Fail (and It Is Not the App)
Most brands do not have an upsell problem. They have a slot problem.
Here is the pattern we see inside Shopify stores doing $200k to $2M a month:
- The founder installs three upsell apps.
- All three fire in the cart.
- The customer sees a bundle offer, a free gift bar, and a “you might also like” widget stacked on top of each other.
- Average order value ticks up 4%. Page speed drops. Profit goes down.
The app was never the problem. The placement was.
This guide does three things no other article on this keyword does:
- Shows you the 5 slots an upsell can fire in, and which apps own which.
- Gives you the margin math to know if an offer is making money or quietly losing it.
- Uses live App Store data, dated, so you are not choosing an app on a 2024 price.

How We Tested and Ranked These Apps
We did not copy another listicle. Here is the method.
- Live data pull. Every rating, review count, launch date and price was pulled directly from each app’s Shopify App Store listing on July 13, 2026.
- Slot mapping. We logged which of the 5 Shopify upsell slots each app can actually fire in. Marketing copy says “full funnel” a lot. The listings say something more specific.
- Price at a real volume. We priced every app at 200 orders a month, because “starts at $9” means nothing if it becomes $99 at your next tier.
- Feature coverage check. We scored each app across 17 upsell features and published the matrix below, including where our own pick loses.
- Review quality, not just star rating. A 5.0 across 40 reviews is a weaker signal than a 4.9 across 2,600. We say so, out loud, including about our own app.
- Real store use. Every app here is one we have deployed or removed inside a live Shopify store.
The 5 Upsell Slots on Shopify
An upsell app does not “boost AOV.” It fires an offer in one specific place. There are only five places it can fire.
Once you see the slots, app choice gets easy.
| Slot | Where it fires | What it does well | The catch |
|---|---|---|---|
| 1. Product page | Before add to cart | Bundles, “buy it with”, tier upgrades | Too many widgets hurt conversion rate |
| 2. Cart or cart drawer | After add to cart | Free gift bars, add ons, volume breaks | Easy to overload. This is where most stores break |
| 3. Checkout page | During checkout | Low friction add ons at peak intent | Shopify Plus only. Confirmed in Shopify’s own docs |
| 4. Post purchase page | After payment, before thank you | One click add to the same order, no re entering card details | Does not render for every payment method. Test yours |
| 5. Thank you page | After the order is confirmed | Second order, review ask, referral, subscription swap | Lower intent. A bonus, not a plan |
Two facts, straight from Shopify’s developer documentation:
- Checkout UI extensions that render on the information, shipping and payment steps are available only to stores on a Shopify Plus plan. So if a blog promises “in checkout upsells” and you are on Shopify Basic, that feature does not exist for you.
- The post purchase page appears after the order is confirmed but before the thank you page. That is why one click post purchase offers convert so well. The customer has already paid.
We checked the nine articles currently ranking for this keyword. Only one of them mentions the Shopify Plus limit at all, and only as a passing feature note inside an app description, never as a warning that the feature will not work on your plan. Nobody explains it. That is the single most expensive thing a founder can fail to know before installing an app.
The SLOT Rule: One App Per Slot
This is the framework we run inside client stores before a single app gets installed.
S: Slot. Name the one slot you are missing. Not the app. The slot. Look at your funnel. If nothing fires after payment, your gap is the post purchase slot. Fix that first.
L: Lift, in dollars. Percent lift is a vanity metric. Do the dollar math. Take rate x offer profit x monthly orders. If that number is smaller than the app bill, do not install it.
O: Overlap. One app per slot. Never two. Two apps in the cart drawer will fight each other, double load JavaScript, and split your data. You will not know which one worked.
T: Take rate. Judge the offer by take rate first, then by margin. A 2% take rate is a bad offer, not a bad app. Fix the offer before you swap the tool.
In one line: pick the slot, model the dollars, kill the overlap, then optimize the take rate.
The 10 Best Upsell Apps for Shopify in 2026
1. Oxify Cart Drawer, Post Upsell
Verdict: The best value multi slot upsell app for Shopify stores under 500 orders a month. It is the only app on this list that covers the cart drawer, product page, post purchase and thank you page slots in one script, with a genuinely free tier.
| Rating | 5.0 (98% five star) |
| Reviews | 40 |
| Launched | January 12, 2024 |
| Free plan | Yes, free under 50 orders a month |
| Paid tiers | $9.99 (51 to 100 orders), $19.99 (101 to 200), $29.99 (201 to 500) |
| Free trial | 14 days |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/ia-cart-drawer-free-gifts |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | No | Yes | Yes |
What it actually does
Oxify replaces your cart drawer, then extends into the post purchase and thank you page slots. In one install you get:
- Slide out cart drawer with cart upsells and cross sells
- Product page upsells
- Post purchase and thank you page upsells
- Frequently bought together recommendations
- Free gift in cart with an automatic discount code
- BOGO offers
- Volume and quantity break discounts
- Multi step progress rewards bar
- Announcement bar with an urgency timer
- Add ons module (shipping protection)
- In cart subscription upgrades
- Full design and customization control
Why it ranks first
Go back to the SLOT Rule. One app per slot.
Most stores end up paying three separate bills and loading three separate scripts to cover the cart drawer, the free gift bar, and the post purchase page. Oxify does all of it with one script.
Run the numbers at 200 orders a month:
- Oxify: $19.99 for cart drawer + product + post purchase + thank you
- UpCart (cart drawer only): $29.99
- Candy Rack: $39.99
- AfterSell (post purchase, no cart drawer): $34.99
- A stack of Kaching ($14.99) + Upsell.com ($19.99): $34.98, two scripts, two dashboards
Oxify covers more slots for less money, with one script. Speed is a conversion factor and a ranking factor, so one script instead of three is not a small thing.
Pros
- Widest slot coverage on this list at its price point
- Genuinely free under 50 orders a month, not a trial
- Order banded pricing, so you never pay for volume you do not have
- One script instead of two or three
- Works with Klaviyo, Judge.me, PageFly, GemPages, Reviews.io
- 98% of its ratings are five star
Cons (read these)
- 40 reviews. That is the smallest sample on this page. A 5.0 across 40 is not the same signal as a 4.9 across 2,600. It is a real limitation, not a nitpick.
- No native A/B testing. Candy Rack, Rebuy, Upsell.com, ICU and Honeycomb all have it. If split testing is your core workflow, this is a gap.
- No in checkout upsells. Neither do most apps here, and you would need Shopify Plus anyway.
- Newer app. Launched January 2024. Less battle tested than Upsell.com (2018) or Vitals (2018).
- iCart is $0.99 a month cheaper at every band. iCart also has 444 reviews. But iCart’s listing does not show post purchase or thank you page upsells, so you would still need a second app.
What merchants say
A US merchant (Snuggle puffs, 3 months on the app): “this is best cart drawer app and upsell feature is amazing… Post purchase upsell setup was super easy.”
An India based merchant (Crossword.in, 2 months): “We’ve tried several apps like Rebuy and UpCart, but this one clearly outperforms them for our needs.”
Both reviews are recent. That matters, because it means the app is being actively adopted, not coasting on old reviews.
Best for
Shopify stores doing under 500 orders a month that want the cart and post purchase slots covered by one app instead of three, and want to start free.
Skip it if
You need in checkout upsells (you need Plus and AfterSell), or split testing is non negotiable (use ICU or Rebuy), or you will only trust an app with 1,000+ reviews (use Upsell.com).
2. Upsell.com (formerly ReConvert)
Verdict: The safest, most proven upsell app on Shopify. If you want zero risk and the biggest review base, start here.
| Rating | 4.8 |
| Reviews | 2,802 |
| Launched | September 26, 2018 |
| Free plan | Yes |
| Paid tiers | $4.99 (Basic), $9.99 (Growth), $19.99 (Business) |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/reconvert-upsell-cross-sell |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | Partial | Plus only | Yes | Yes |
What it actually does
The default pick for post purchase upsells, and it earned that spot over seven years.
- Drag and drop editor for the post purchase and thank you pages
- One click post purchase offers (customer does not re enter card details)
- Countdown timers and urgency blocks
- AI product recommendations
- Bundles and cross sells
- Post purchase surveys
- A/B testing on offers
- Segmentation by cart value, product, and customer type
Note the rebrand: ReConvert is now listed as Upsell.com. Most articles ranking for this keyword still call it ReConvert, which tells you how old their data is.
Pros
- 2,802 reviews at 4.8. The strongest trust signal in this category.
- Real free plan, not a trial
- Cheapest entry paid tier here at $4.99
- Built in A/B testing
- Owns the post purchase slot, which is zero risk to your product page and cart conversion rate
Cons
- Pricing scales with monthly orders or upsell revenue, so model your cost at your next volume tier, not today’s
- Not a cart drawer app. If your cart is the gap, this does not fill it.
- The editor is powerful, which also means it is not a five minute setup
Cost at 200 orders a month
$19.99 on the Business tier.
Best for
Any store with no post purchase offer running. That is most stores. Also the right pick if you simply want the app with the longest track record.
Skip it if
Your gap is the cart drawer, not the post purchase page.
3. AfterSell by Rokt
Verdict: The best upsell app for Shopify Plus. The only app here that hits the checkout page and the post purchase page in one install.
| Rating | 4.8 |
| Reviews | 874 |
| Launched | December 31, 2019 |
| Free plan | Yes (development stores) |
| Paid tiers | $34.99 (0 to 500 orders), $54.99 (501 to 1,000), $99.99 (1,001 to 2,000) |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/aftersell |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No | No | Yes (Plus) | Yes | Yes |
What it actually does
- One click post purchase offers
- Checkout page upsells via Shopify checkout UI extensions (Plus only)
- Checkout page customization (trust badges, custom blocks, banners)
- Thank you page offers
- A/B testing
- Analytics on take rate and revenue per offer
Pros
- If you are on Plus, this covers slot 3 and slot 4 with one install. That is textbook no overlap.
- Strong support reputation across 874 reviews
- Owned by Rokt, so it is not going anywhere
Cons
- It is the most expensive app here at low volume. $34.99 at 0 to 500 orders.
- No cart drawer, no product page offers. It is a back half of the funnel tool.
- The checkout upsell feature, the headline reason to buy it, requires Shopify Plus
Cost per upsell at 200 orders a month
$34.99 a month. At an 8% take rate on 200 orders, that is 16 upsells taken, or about $2.19 in app cost per upsell. Fine if each upsell nets you $8 in profit. A losing trade if it nets $2.
Best for
Shopify Plus brands. Also non Plus brands that want post purchase done by a large, well resourced vendor.
Skip it if
You are under 200 orders a month. The $34.99 floor is hard to justify at that volume when Upsell.com does the same slot for $9.99.
4. Essential Upsell and Cross Sell
Verdict: The best value full funnel app with a large review base. A perfect 5.0 across 2,190 reviews is very hard to fake.
| Rating | 5.0 |
| Reviews | 2,190 |
| Launched | June 10, 2024 |
| Free plan | Yes |
| Paid tiers | $9.99 (Starter), $19.99 (Essential), $39.99 (Professional) |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/essential-post-purchase-upsell |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | Partial | Yes | Yes |
What it actually does
- Product page upsells and cross sells
- Cart upsells
- Post purchase one click offers
- Bundles and BOGO
- Free gift offers
- Frequently bought together widgets
Pros
- 5.0 across 2,190 reviews. That is the strongest rating to review ratio on this entire page.
- Four slots from one app at $9.99
- Real free plan
Cons
- Launched June 2024, so it built that review base fast. Fast review growth is a good sign, but it means less long term track record than Upsell.com.
- No standalone cart drawer replacement, so if your cart drawer is the problem you still need a cart app
- No native A/B testing
Cost at 200 orders a month
$19.99 on the Essential tier.
Best for
Stores under 1,000 orders a month who want broad coverage from one app and want a big review base behind it.
5. Frequently Bought Together (CBB)
Verdict: The best product page upsell app on Shopify. Amazon style recommendations that get smarter as your order data grows.
| Rating | 4.9 |
| Reviews | 1,113 |
| Launched | March 15, 2017 |
| Free plan | Yes (Starter) |
| Paid tiers | $9.99, $19.99, $39.99 |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/frequently-bought-together |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | No | No | No | No |
What it actually does
An AI model reads your real order history and suggests genuine product pairs, exactly like Amazon’s “frequently bought together” block. You can also set manual bundles and bundle level discounts.
Pros
- Nine years in market. One of the oldest and most stable apps on this list.
- The AI actually uses your order data, not a generic category graph
- Clean, single purpose. It owns slot 1 and does not clutter anything else.
- Bundle discounts built in
Cons
- It needs order history to be smart. A store with 40 orders will get weak suggestions.
- Product page only. It does nothing for your cart or post purchase slots.
Cost at 200 orders a month
$19.99 on Professional II.
Best for
Stores with 500+ orders of history and products that genuinely pair. Coffee and filters. Camera and lens. Not two random t shirts.
Skip it if
You are a new store. Use manual bundles until you have data to train on.
6. Kaching CartDrawer Cart Upsell
Verdict: The best pure cart drawer app. It does one slot and does it better than almost anyone.
| Rating | 5.0 |
| Reviews | 1,034 |
| Launched | December 9, 2024 |
| Free plan | Yes |
| Paid tiers | $9.99 (99 orders), $14.99 (199 orders), $24.99 (499 orders) |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/cart-upsell |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No | Yes | No | No | No |
What it actually does
A slide out cart with upsells, urgency timers, and a free shipping or free gift progress bar, all built in.
Pros
- 5.0 across 1,034 reviews. Exceptional at that volume.
- It replaces your cart drawer instead of bolting onto it, so one script in the cart, not three
- Cheapest cart drawer here at 200 orders ($14.99)
Cons
- Because it replaces the cart drawer, it conflicts with any other cart app. Uninstall the others first.
- Cart only. No post purchase, no thank you page. You will need a second app for those slots, which means a second bill and a second script.
Cost at 200 orders a month
$14.99.
Best for
Stores where the cart drawer is doing nothing but showing a subtotal and a checkout button, and where you already have a post purchase app you like.
7. Rebuy Personalization Engine
Verdict: The best upsell platform for 8 figure brands. Real personalization logic, not a widget.
| Rating | 4.7 |
| Reviews | 830 |
| Launched | May 23, 2019 |
| Free plan | Yes (Rebuy Monetize) |
| Paid tiers | From $25/mo, scales with usage |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/rebuy |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | Yes (Plus) | Yes | Yes |
What it actually does
Smart Cart, smart links, post purchase offers, re order landing pages, and a rules engine you can genuinely configure. You can build logic like: “if the cart contains a subscription item and subtotal is over $80, show the refill bundle at 10% off.”
Pros
- Covers every slot
- The only app here with a true enterprise grade rules engine
- Strong analytics and segmentation
Cons
- Setup is a project, not an afternoon. If nobody owns it, it becomes an expensive widget.
- Pricing scales with usage and can climb fast
- At 4.7, the lowest rating of the big players here
Best for
Brands doing $2M+ a month with real data and someone whose job it is to run the rules. This is exactly where an embedded ecommerce team earns its keep.
Skip it if
You are under $200k a month. You will pay for power you will not use.
8. ICU: In Cart Upsell and Cross Sell
Verdict: The best conditional rules engine on a small budget. If/then offer logic plus A/B testing at $9.99.
| Rating | 4.8 |
| Reviews | 558 |
| Launched | December 8, 2015 |
| Free plan | Yes |
| Paid tiers | $9.99 (Basic), $19.99 (Grow), $49.99 (Advanced) |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/in-cart-upsell |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | Yes | No | Yes | Yes |
What it actually does
Conditional offers based on cart contents, collection, product tag, or cart value. Plus built in A/B testing on offers, which most cart apps do not have.
Pros
- Conditional logic plus A/B testing at $9.99 is the best price for that combination here
- Oldest app on this list (2015). Very stable.
- The middle ground between one dumb widget and a full personalization platform
Cons
- You have to write the rules. Out of the box it does nothing clever.
- The interface shows its age
Cost at 200 orders a month
$19.99 on the Grow tier.
Best for
Stores with varied catalogs where one blanket offer will not work, and someone willing to configure logic.
9. One Click Upsell by Zipify (OCU)
Verdict: The most honest pricing model on this list. You only pay more when it makes you more.
| Rating | 4.5 |
| Reviews | 523 |
| Launched | October 9, 2020 |
| Free plan | Yes (development stores) |
| Paid tiers | $8/mo, scales with the upsell revenue it generates |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/zipify-oneclickupsell |
Slot coverage
| Product page | Cart drawer | Checkout | Post purchase | Thank you |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Yes | No | Yes (Plus) | Yes | Yes |
What it actually does
- Product page offer widget
- Pre purchase upsells
- In checkout upsells (Plus)
- Post purchase upsells
- Thank you and order status page upsells
- AI powered offers
- True one click funnels
Built by the Zipify team, who run a real ecommerce brand. It shows in the product decisions.
Pros
- Pricing scales with generated upsell revenue. If the app does not perform, you do not pay much. That is rare and it is fair.
- Covers four slots
- True one click funnels, no re entering payment
Cons
- 4.5 is the lowest rating on this list. Reviews mention a learning curve on funnel setup.
- Settings heavy. Budget a real afternoon, not ten minutes.
Best for
Founders who want one click funnels and are comfortable with a configuration heavy tool.
10. Vitals
Verdict: The best all in one for new stores. Forty plus tools, one bill, one script.
| Rating | 4.9 |
| Reviews | 2,604 |
| Launched | March 16, 2018 |
| Free plan | Yes (development stores) |
| Paid tier | $29.99 flat |
| Listing | apps.shopify.com/vitals |
What it actually does
Reviews, bundles, upsells, volume discounts, visitor replays, email and push campaigns, and about 35 other tools, all in one app for a flat $29.99.
Pros
- For a store under 500 orders a month, it replaces five separate app bills and five separate scripts
- 4.9 across 2,604 reviews
- Flat pricing. No order band surprises.
Cons
- The upsell module is good, not best in class. It is a feature inside a suite, not a dedicated tool.
- No post purchase page upsells
- Once you pass roughly $500k a year, you will want a dedicated app for your highest value slot
Best for
New and growing stores that want one bill and one script across many tools. See our take on when to keep or cut a Shopify app.
Close Alternatives We Tested but Did Not Rank
- iCart Cart Drawer (4.7, 444 reviews, from $9/mo). Genuinely good, and $0.99 cheaper than Oxify at every band. It loses on slot coverage: its listing does not show post purchase or thank you page upsells, so you would need a second app. If you only need the cart drawer and want the cheapest option with a real track record, iCart is a fair pick.
- UpCart Cart Drawer (4.7, 823 reviews, from $29.99/mo). Popular and well built. Priced at $29.99 for 0 to 200 orders, which is $10 more than Oxify at the same volume for fewer slots.
- Candy Rack (4.9, 208 reviews, from $29.99/mo). Excellent all in one upsell app with A/B testing. Starts at $29.99 and hits $39.99 at the Starter tier, which makes it hard to justify under 200 orders.
- Honeycomb Upsell (4.7, 151 reviews, from $54.99/mo). Best in class A/B testing. Priced out of the top 10 at $54.99 entry.
- Bundler (4.9, 2,394 reviews, from $8.99/mo). Superb bundling engine, less of an upsell app. Pair it with our guide to Shopify bundles and AOV.
The Margin Trap: When a “+13% AOV Lift” Loses Money
This is the part every other article on this keyword leaves out. It is also the part that decides whether the app pays for itself.
Two scenarios. Same store. Very different outcome.
Scenario A: The post purchase offer that works
- Store does 1,000 orders a month at $60 AOV = $60,000 revenue
- Gross margin is 55%, so cost of goods is 45%
- You run a post purchase offer: a $40 product at $30
- Take rate is 8% = 80 orders take it
The math:
| Line | Amount |
|---|---|
| Extra revenue (80 x $30) | +$2,400 |
| Extra cost of goods (80 x $18) | -$1,440 |
| Payment fees at ~2.9% | -$70 |
| Extra pick, pack and ship ($2/order) | -$160 |
| App cost | -$35 |
| Net profit added | +$695/month |
AOV moves from $60 to $62.40. The offer is real money.
Scenario B: The cart upsell that quietly loses money
Same store. This time: “add this $20 item, get 15% off your whole cart.”
- Take rate is 12% = 120 orders take it
- Cart goes from $60 to $80, then 15% off = customer pays $68
The math, per order:
| Before | After | |
|---|---|---|
| Revenue | $60.00 | $68.00 |
| Cost of goods | $27.00 | $36.00 |
| Gross profit | $33.00 | $32.00 |
You just lost $1 per order.
Across 120 orders that is negative $120, plus a $19.99 app bill. You are down about $140 a month.
But your dashboard says AOV jumped from $60 to $68. That is a +13% lift. It looks like a win. It is a loss.
The rule: never discount the whole cart to sell one add on. Discount the add on only. And always check contribution margin, not AOV.
Cost Per Upsell: The Number Nobody Publishes
App pricing is per month. Value is per upsell. Divide.
Formula: App cost / (monthly orders x take rate) = cost per upsell taken
At 200 orders a month with an 8% take rate, that is 16 upsells:
| App | Monthly cost | Cost per upsell taken |
|---|---|---|
| Kaching CartDrawer | $14.99 | $0.94 |
| Oxify | $19.99 | $1.25 |
| Upsell.com | $19.99 | $1.25 |
| Essential | $19.99 | $1.25 |
| Vitals | $29.99 | $1.87 |
| Candy Rack | $39.99 | $2.50 |
| AfterSell | $34.99 | $2.19 |
| Honeycomb | $54.99 | $3.44 |
If your average upsell adds $8 of gross profit, every app above is worth it. If it adds $2, only the top three are.
Run this before you install anything. It takes 90 seconds and it is the whole decision.
How to Install Without Wrecking Your Store
1. One app per slot. No exceptions. Two apps in the cart means two scripts, two sets of CSS, and a broken mobile drawer. Audit what you already have before you install anything new.
2. Measure store speed before and after. Run Lighthouse or Shopify’s own speed score before install. Run it again 48 hours later. If mobile speed drops more than 5 points, the app has to earn that back in profit.
3. Test your post purchase offer with real payment methods. The post purchase page does not render for every payment method. Place a test order with Shop Pay, then PayPal, then a card. If it does not show, the offer does not exist, no matter what the dashboard says.
4. Change one thing at a time. New app plus new offer plus new discount equals no learning. Ship one variable. Wait for 300 sessions in that slot. Then read the take rate.
5. Uninstall properly. Removing an app does not always remove its theme code. Check your theme for leftover snippets, or you keep the speed penalty without the app.

What Page One Gets Wrong
We read the ten articles currently ranking for this keyword. Here is what they all miss.
We pulled and read all nine. Here is the scorecard, and we are giving credit where it is due.
| What matters | Competitors that do it |
|---|---|
| Explains the Shopify Plus limit on in checkout upsells | 1 of 9 (loopwork, and only as a passing feature note) |
| Any margin or cost of goods math | 0 of 9 |
| Cost per upsell taken | 0 of 9 |
| Take rate benchmarks | 0 of 9 |
| Warns about app conflicts and site speed | 1 of 9 (EcommerceGold, and it is a good warning) |
| Cites a primary source like shopify.dev | 0 of 9 |
| Still calls Upsell.com “ReConvert” (stale data) | 5 of 9 |
| Vendor blogs ranking their own app first | 6 of 9 |
| …of those, disclose it | 0 of 6 |
The takeaways:
- Nobody tells you an AOV lift can lose money. Zero of nine do any margin math. They all treat a higher AOV as automatically good. It is not, and we show you exactly when.
- Nobody prices apps in the right unit. They quote monthly cost. The number that matters is cost per upsell taken.
- Most are running on stale data. Five of nine still call the app “ReConvert” when the App Store has listed it as Upsell.com for a while now.
- Six of nine are vendor blogs that rank their own app at number one. AiTrillion ranks AiTrillion first. OptiMonk ranks OptiMonk first. TxtCart ranks TxtCart first. Fast Bundle ranks Fast Bundle first. Not one of them discloses it. We do, at the top of this page.
Credit where it is due: EcommerceGold is the best independent article on this keyword. It is written by a founder who ran his own store for seven years, it actually tested the apps, and it warns you not to install too many. It is the one competitor we would tell you to also read.
FAQs
What is the best upsell app for Shopify in 2026?
It depends on the slot you are missing. For stores under 500 orders a month, Oxify Cart Drawer, Post Upsell offers the best value, because it covers the cart drawer, product page, post purchase and thank you page in one app and is free under 50 orders. For the longest track record, Upsell.com (formerly ReConvert) leads with 4.8 stars across 2,802 reviews. For Shopify Plus stores that want in checkout offers, AfterSell is the strongest option.
What is the best free upsell app for Shopify?
Oxify Cart Drawer is free under 50 orders a month with full feature access, which is the most generous free tier of the multi slot apps. Upsell.com, Essential Upsell, Frequently Bought Together and ICU In Cart Upsell all offer real free plans too. Most free plans cap the number of offers or monthly upsell revenue, so read the limits before you build a whole funnel on one.
Do I need Shopify Plus to run upsells?
No. You only need Shopify Plus for upsells that render inside the checkout page (the information, shipping and payment steps). Shopify’s developer documentation confirms those checkout UI extensions are Plus only. Product page, cart, post purchase and thank you page upsells all work on standard Shopify plans.
How many upsell apps should I install?
One per slot. Most stores need one or two apps total. If you have three or more upsell apps running, you almost certainly have two fighting over the same slot, splitting your data and slowing your store down.
Do upsell apps hurt conversion rate?
They can. A product page upsell adds friction before add to cart. A cart upsell adds friction before checkout. A post purchase upsell adds zero friction, because the customer has already paid. That is why we tell most brands to start with the post purchase slot and work backwards.
What is a good upsell take rate on Shopify?
A healthy post purchase take rate sits in the 5% to 15% range, depending on the offer and the price point. Below 3%, the offer is the problem, not the app. Fix the product match and the price before you swap tools.
Does an upsell app increase profit or just AOV?
Not always both. If your offer discounts the entire cart, AOV can rise while gross profit falls. Always model it in dollars: take rate x profit per upsell x monthly orders, minus the app bill.
Which upsell app is cheapest at 200 orders a month?
Kaching CartDrawer at $14.99, but it only covers the cart drawer. For multi slot coverage, Oxify, Upsell.com and Essential Upsell all sit at $19.99. iCart is $19.00 for cart and product page only.
Can I use two upsell apps together?
Only if they fire in different slots. A cart drawer app plus a post purchase app is fine. Two cart drawer apps will conflict, double load JavaScript, and can visually break your mobile cart.
What is the difference between upselling and cross selling on Shopify?
Upselling offers a better or bigger version of what the customer is already buying (a larger size, a premium tier). Cross selling offers a complementary product (a filter with a coffee machine). Most Shopify apps do both. Read our full upselling and cross selling strategy guide.
The Uncomfortable Truth
The app is about 20% of the result.
The other 80% is the offer, the operator, and the testing cadence. We have watched two stores install the same app in the same slot and get a 2% take rate and a 14% take rate. Same tool. Different operator.
An upsell app will not:
- Pick the right add on product for you
- Write an offer that makes sense to a real buyer
- Notice when a 15% cart discount is eating your margin
- Run the test, read the data, and kill the loser
Someone has to own that. Every week. Forever.
Stop Stacking Apps. Build the System.
Installing an upsell app takes ten minutes. Running one properly takes a person.
AcquireX builds dedicated offshore ecommerce teams that own execution end to end. Not an agency. Not freelancers. A team embedded in your business that runs your app stack, writes the offers, tests them, reads the margin, and kills what does not work.
